[Slowly, he drops his arms from his middle, reaching out timidly to grasp onto the hem of Kaworu's nightshirt.]

Then stay...please.

[He's about to say something in response to Kaworu's words but his voice dies in his throat out of shock when he feels the Angel's arms wrap around him. No longer is it his own arms that are around his middle. Kaworu is hugging him. Embracing him. It's enough to make his mind shut down.

When was the last time he'd been hugged? Surely his mother had hugged him, or so he wants to desperately believe. He can't remember. He's never let anyone close enough. Yet here he is and Shinji's dumbfounded as to how to respond. He'd been feeling chilled but now he's warm, right throughout his entire body as he finally reaches up, cautiously with his own arms, to awkwardly return the hug. It seems surreal. Was this really even happening?]

I...any time, Kaworu-kun.

[Pilot takes the hand and squeezes.]

What would you like to hear?

Well...

[Pilot tilts his head back to the sky and then continues, voice soft.]

...in that case. He remembers... flying. There isn't much to see when your between stars or planets. Just distant points of light. But then there are the teams we were close - he remembers - looking down on a planet - a gas giant. A swirling array of colors and storms, all seen from a thousand miles away. And it was beautiful. Terrible and awe-inspiring in how it dwarfed us, a reminder of how small we all were. But - it was wonderful at the same time.

[ Why is this guy so agreeable it's kind of annoying... ]

FROM: dagger@cdc.org

I'm usually seven to eight feet tall, unhindered. Taller than that normally, in my natural setting. Height isn't the problem.

FROM: dagger@cdc.org

It's when short people yell at tall people calling them liars because impotent insults are the only way they're able to reach above their heads.

FROM: dagger@cdc.org

I am perfect, though.
